Ron Book Nominated for 2024 Nobel Peace Prize

Today, Ronald L. Book was officially announced as a 2024 Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Book’s nomination is in recognition of his transformative work in addressing homelessness and preventing childhood sexual abuse, two of society’s most pressing issues.

Throughout his remarkable career, Book has redefined what it means to lead with compassion, focus and determination. His role as Chairman of the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust for over 30 years has been instrumental in reducing the region’s homeless population from over 8,000 in 1993 to just over 1,002 today. Under his leadership, the Trust’s initiatives, such as The Lazarus Project, have provided lifesaving medical care to the unsheltered and developed innovative housing solutions. Book’s efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic ensured that the homeless community received critical testing, vaccinations, and quarantine options, earning national recognition.

Beyond his work with the homeless, Book’s most important and personal mission is preventing childhood sexual abuse. Together with his daughter, Senator Lauren Book, a survivor, they have transformed their family’s painful experience into a powerful movement. Lauren founded the non-profit Lauren’s Kids, and under Ron’s guidance as Chairman and pro bono General Counsel, the organization has grown into a national and international force for education and advocacy. Lauren’s Kids’ “Safer Smarter Schools” curriculum reaches over 100,000 classrooms in 40 states, teaching children and adults about personal safety. The organization has also successfully championed the passage of more than 35 laws aimed at protecting children and supporting survivors.

Reflecting on his life’s work, Ron Book stated, “I’ve always believed that we have an obligation to leave the world better than we found it. My daughter’s bravery and strength in sharing her story has further inspired me to fight every day to protect others from experiencing the same pain. It’s my duty to use my platform to make a difference. To be recognized with such a prestigious nomination as the Nobel Peace Prize is a profound honor, and it deepens my resolve to continue this lifelong work.”

His tireless dedication to these causes has touched countless lives, making him a worthy candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Global Recognition for Compassionate Leadership

Book’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize is a testament to his lifelong dedication to social justice, his unyielding commitment to the most vulnerable, and his belief in the power of change. His leadership has not only reshaped the fight against homelessness but has also provided critical protection for children through legislative advocacy and educational initiatives.
